Dr. Carolyn Merritt
is board certified by the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Her training and experience also includes a fellowship in basic science research of autoimmune blistering diseases of the skin which resulted in several publications in peer-reviewed academic journals. She has been director of Carolyn Merritt, MD and Associates, PLLC in St. Croix, USVI since 2004 and has developed a practice of medicine through her unique skin-lifestyle-wellness approach.
Dr. Merritt is a magna cum laude graduate of Howard University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in History and Education. After teaching high school for 3 years she revamped her career by returning to college to acquire the basic sciences courses to qualify her to apply to medical school. She received her Medical Degree from George Washington University. The remainder of her medical training of internship, fellowship and dermatology residency was at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC. Dr. Merritt has been a practicing physician in North Carolina, Virginia, and Illinois before making the U.S. Virgin Islands her home.
Her interest and personal practice of healthy living prompted her to acquire a fellowship in Anti-Aging, Regenerative and Functional Medicine. This is a clinical/medical specialty in the field of scientific research aimed at the early detection, prevention, treatment, and reversal of age-related decline.
The scope of her practice includes basic medical and surgical dermatological treatment of eczema, acne, mole removal, warts, keloids, pigmentation problems and skin cancers. is a native Virgin Islander who has always been interested in the natural flora of the Virgin Islands and its medicinal values. As a young girl, she learned how to use aloe, coconut water, and sand as part of a natural skin care routine. She became even more passionate about health and beauty as she got older, and eventually decided to study clinical skin care.
Christine has been a licensed aesthetician since 2011, and in 2015 she completed the medical aesthetics program at Texas Laser and Aesthetics Training Academy in Austin, TX. In addition, she holds advanced certifications in various cosmetic procedures including; laser hair removal, tattoo removal, laser skin resurfacing, radiofrequency skin tightening, and microneedling.
